Getting started
What does DD 214 Day actually do?
It is the planning app for your Army career and your exit from it. You get a countdown to your separation or retirement date, a six-phase timeline with milestones generated from your profile, retirement pay and VA rating calculators, a document vault, and curated guides for SkillBridge, VA programs, and where to live after. Everyone leaves with a DD 214. This app makes sure the other paperwork, deadlines, and math are handled before that day.
I am years away from getting out. Is this app still for me?
Yes. It serves every rank, private through general, E-1 to O-10, in every component, and you do not need 20 years on the books for it to be worth your time. The strongest transition file is built while you serve, not in the last 90 days. Use the vault to consolidate your record (awards, NCOERs or OERs, orders, medical copies) from day one, the journal to capture what happened while you still remember it, and the calculators to see what your numbers look like at year 10, 15, or 20.
Do I need to know my exact separation date?
No. Enter your best projected date during onboarding and the timeline builds around it. When the date moves (and it usually does), edit your profile in Settings and the milestones regenerate.
Is this app affiliated with the Army or the VA?
No. DD 214 Day is an independent, veteran-owned application built by Teal Apex Group LLC. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, or the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Calculators and accuracy
How accurate is the retirement pay calculator?
The math uses the current DFAS pay tables at exact cents and computes your system (Final Pay, High-36, or BRS) from your BASD. Every formula has unit test coverage against known worked examples. That said, the output is a planning estimate: actual retired pay is computed by DFAS and may differ. Verify with your Finance office or a retirement services officer before making decisions.
Which retirement systems are supported?
All three current systems: Final Pay for entry before September 1980, High-36 (High-3) for the legacy window, and the Blended Retirement System. The calculator picks your system from your service entry date so you do not have to know the rules going in.
How does the VA rating calculator work?
It uses the same Whole Person Method VA raters use, including the bilateral factor, and shows monthly compensation at current VA rates with your dependency status. A what-if mode lets you add hypothetical conditions. Estimates only: actual decisions are made by VA raters based on the evidence in your claim. Talk to an accredited VSO before filing.
A number looks wrong. What do I do?
Report it. Calculator accuracy is the core promise of this app, and reports go straight to the founder. Use Report a bug on the Support page or the feedback form in Settings, and include the inputs you used so we can reproduce it.
Tiers and pricing
What do I get for free?
The countdown and six-phase timeline, the retirement pay, base pay, and VA rating calculators, the packet window, and a vault with room for 10 documents. The calculators stay free. We do not paywall math.
What do Premium and Pro add?
Premium ($9.99/month, or $79.99/year) adds the Leave and SkillBridge planner, a vault up to 100 documents, and milestone deadline notifications when those ship. Pro ($16.99/month, or $129.99/year) adds the AI mission briefing, consent-gated AI document parsing, the claim prep assistant, and unlimited vault storage.
What is the Founders Lifetime deal?
A one-time payment for lifetime access: $99 for Premium (first 50 spots) or $249 for Pro (first 25 spots). Lifetime means the life of the product on one non-transferable account; the full definition lives in the Terms. Founders are the Advance Party: a permanent founder number (1 through 75, never reused; Pro founders hold 1 through 25), the Founder badge in the app, early access to new features, and a quarterly vote on what gets built next. Pro founders also receive the Founders challenge coin with their number struck on it. When the 75 spots are gone, lifetime is never sold again.
Will you ever take a cut of my benefits or claim?
Never. Pricing is flat. We do not charge a percentage of your benefits, back pay, or claim value, and we never will. That model preys on veterans and we want no part of it.
Documents and privacy
Is my data safe?
Your documents are stored encrypted at rest, access is locked to your account by row level security at the database layer, and we do not sell your data. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
What should I never upload to the vault?
Anything classified (CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET, TOP SECRET, S//NF) and anything with your full SSN unredacted. Redact first, then upload. You remain responsible for the contents you upload.
Does AI read my documents?
Only if you are on Pro, only if you opt in, and only per document. AI parsing is consent gated: nothing is sent to an AI model unless you explicitly approve it for that specific document, and you can decline every time.
Can I delete my account and everything in it?
Yes, any time, from Settings. Deletion removes your profile, journal, and stored documents. No retention games, no call-to-cancel.
Support
How do I reach a human?
The Support page has a contact form that lands with the team that builds the app, or email support@tealapexgroup.com directly. Replies within 2 business days. Signed-in users can also use the feedback form in Settings, which attaches your account context automatically.
I have a feature idea. Do you actually read those?
Every one. The suggestion board feeds the roadmap directly, and several shipped features started as user suggestions. Send ideas through the feedback form in Settings.
